The system introduces silver and copper ions into your pool water through the circulation process. An ion is any atom with an electrical charge. The disinfectant takes place when the positively charged copper and silver ions form electrostatic bonds with the negatively charged areas on the micro-organism cell walls.Thease electrostatic bonds create stress that lead to distorted cell wall permeability,minimising the normal intake of life sustaining nutrients. Once inside an algae cell ,Copper and Silver amino acids residues in the proteins used for photosynthesis (the process of converting light into usable food and energy.) As a result photosynthesis is blocked and lead to cell lysis and death.If the algae cell manages to live,the reproduction process is hampered by the presence of copper ions and the spread of the algae is kept in check.Bacteria is killed,rather than suppressed. The greatest benefit of Cu/Ag ions ,is that they remain in the water providing a residual protection.
